Besides the ultimate indulgence on Penang Char Koay Teow, the other Penang delights that I went searching for (in convenient places) were Penang Curry Mee and Hokkien Mee. These two items are a must have while on a vacation in Penang. You may be able to get similar names of this dish in other parts of Malaysia and Singapore but it will never taste like what they have here.
Curry Mee is a bowl of noodles and vermicelli blanched and served with a curry soup/gravy and the condiments are beansprouts, shelled cockles, taupok (dried beancurd), cuttlefish, coagulated blood, prawns and the special chilly.
Here are some of the shots I took while on my foodhunt. Sorry this time I didn't take down the names or locations of the stalls as I find them not the best ones by Penang standard so far. But for those who are vacationing in Penang from other states or country, they are considered good and recommended dishes.
I used to patronise the one in Bee Hooi coffeeshop but lately in the past year on two occasions I have been back, the stall seemed to have stop operating business. Has the weaker economy caused it to go bust as many business have been? Or because they have finally retired after so many years of good business and finally enjoying the fruits of harvest? I will never know.
So I decided to try the corner coffeeshop at Lorong Pulau Tikus which had been getting quite popular and busy in the past few years. Here, the variety of foods sold is amazing. They have everything from Penang Curry Mee, Hokkien Mee, Wan Tan Mee, Char Koay Teow, Char Tang Hoon, etc to even stall selling kueh and apom (indian pancakes).
